Gene Murray (Ph.D. Texas A&M) is a professor of mass communication at Grambling Sate University, where he has taught since 1992. He has worked as an editor and reporter for weekly, daily and military newspapers and as a copy editor for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Dallas Morning News and the Monroe (La.) News-Star. His publications include the book Covering Sex, Race and Gender in the American Military Services and three book chapters. Professor Murray is a founder and co-adviser of the Lincoln Collegiate Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. In 2006, SPJ honored him at the national convention for distinguished teaching in journalism.
